Dr. Kris Lehnhardt

Expertise in Emergency, Extreme Environmental, and Aerospace Medicine

Dr. Kris Lehnhardt is the Element Scientist for Exploration Medical Capability at the NASA Johnson Space Center. He is also an Associate Professor with the Baylor College of Medicine in the Center for Space Medicine and Department of Emergency Medicine. He is board-certified in Emergency Medicine in both Canada and the U.S.A and he works clinically in the Emergency Department at the Ben Taub Hospital in Houston. Prior to these positions, Kris was an Attending Physician and Assistant Professor at The George Washington University (GWU) School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Kris is a reservist in the Royal Canadian Air Force, a private pilot, and a PADI advanced open water SCUBA diver.

2018 – present  Element Scientist, Exploration Medical Capability, NASA Human Research Program, Houston, TX

  • Role: Medical and scientific leadership, guidance, expertise, and oversight to an interdisciplinary team of 50 clinicians, scientists, and engineers who are working collaboratively to design future NASA medical systems for human space exploration. Yearly operational budget of approximately $10 million.
